Step by Step Umrah Guide | Umrah Rituals and Rites
Umrah, its Virtues and its Virtues
Linguistically, the word "Umrah", which means "visit", is derived from "I'timar" in Arabic. Religiously, it refers to the act and ritual of visiting Kaa'ba, performing Tawaf, then Sa'i seven more times between Safa, Marwa. Umrah can be considered the minor pilgrimage that can take place at any time during the year except for Hajj. This is because it is an obligation and pillar of Islam that must be done by all adult capable Muslims. You can perform Umrah more than once depending on your financial and health capabilities. Many hadiths are available on Umrah's virtue. Among them is what Abu Hurairah (peace be upon him), said: "The performing Umrah is expiation of the sins between it and previous ones." Hajj Mabrur, which is a pilgrimage accepted by Allah, has nothing to do with Paradise.
Steps and Pillars of Umrah:
Umrah is a complex Islamic Umrah ritual that requires Muslims to observe three main pillars.
- Ihram
- Tawaf
- Sa'i
The Muslim enters a state called Ihram- A holy state in which a Muslim must be to perform Hajj and Umrah. This is achieved by reaching one of the Miqats, pilgrimage boundaries identified by the Prophet (peace upon him).
Dhu'l-Hulayfah :This miqat, now known as Abar Ali is located the furthest distance from Makkah. It is only for Madinah residents and those coming to Makkah from Madinah.
Juhfah :This miqat is intended for people coming from the Levant, Egypt, Sudan and Morocco.
Qarn ul-Manazil :Also known as Miqat Al-Sail Al-Kabir. It serves pilgrims who travel from Najd, GCC countries, and other destinations.
Yalamlam :This miqat is used to serve pilgrims traveling from Yemen and was named after Yalamlam Mountain.
Dhat-i ’Irq :Pilgrims traveling from Iraq or other countries will find this miqat.
It is recommended that the Mu'tamer reach the miqat by washing and cleaning all clothing before putting it to use. Then, wear the Ihram outfit, which consists of seamless white clothing for the men, once the Mu'tamer has reached the miqat. Regular plain clothing is acceptable for women.
Then he speaks the niyah (intention to enter Ihram) and then utters the phrase "Labbayk Allahumma Umrah," which is followed by the Talbiyah of Prophet (peace upon him): "Labbayka Allahumma Labbayk. Labbayk La Sharika Laka Labbayk. Inna lHamda Wa n-Nimata Laka wal Mulk La Sharika Lak. Here I am at Thy service, and Thou hast not any partners. Thine alone is All Praise, All Bounty, Thine alone the Sovereignty. Thou hast not partners em>). He continues repeating this until he reaches Kaa'ba. There, he approaches the Black Stone, kisses it or points at it while uttering takbir to Allahu Akbar if he is unable.
The Mu'tamer then begins his journey.Tawafi.e. circling the Kaa'ba seven more times while touching the Black Stone, kissing it whenever he passes it or pointing at it as described above. The Mu'tamer must complete the Tawaf by praying two rak'aas at the Kaa'ba, or anywhere else in the mosque. He will recite after Surat Al Fatihah Surat Al Kafirun in one rak'aa, and Surat Al Ikhlas the second rak'aa.
The Mu'tamer will start his journey after completing the Tawaf.Sa'iBetween Safa and Marwa (i.e. Walking quickly between the two points. Begin with Safa."Indeed as-Safa, al-Marwah and al-Marwah are some of the symbols of Allah."(2:185), and any other prayers he chooses, before walking quickly towards Marwa. He will then repeat what he did at Safa.
After completing the Sa’i, the man cuts his hair, or shaves it shortening the hair of the woman.
After completing all of these steps, the Mu'tamer has completed his Umrah. Allah will be pleased with him. He is now entitled to any forbidden item in the state o Ihram.
